This Macrotone Joomla Audit (JAudit) FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) is intended to assist you in providing answers to some of the most commonly asked questions. It is intended to supplement the main documentation.
How do I get hold of a copy of the component?
The release is now available for download in the 'Download' directory.
Which version of Joomla does it work with?
The initial release was for Joomla 3.1 and 2.5, but it runs on the current release versions of Joomla.
Are there any front end features?
No there are no front end features what so ever. An Auditing package of this nature has a limited and very restrictive visability, and then only to suitably authorised people depending upon the informat captured.
Where is the documentation?
The full product documentation is available as web pages and in PDF format. The documentation covers all releases.
Are any Joomla core files changed?
No. The component creates Database triggers which capture the change information and saves it in the database for viewing by the component. It is completely oblivious of the Joomla application as far as the capture of information is concerned, hence should work with all of the underlying tables.
What databases are supported?
The underlying databases upon which Joomla runs each have different capabilites as far as features such as triggers, procedures, functions etc. are concerned. In addition each accepts slightly different syntax. Due to these differences the current release version only support MySQL as the underlying database.
I am seeing errors trying to create a trigger in the database?
The component creates database triggers, however to do so the connection that Joomla makes to the underlying database must have the appropriate database privileges to be able to create triggers. We know that not all hosting providers permit their clients to create database objects such as triggers, procedures and functions. We regret that in this situation the component is unable to override the database privileges and it necessary for you to check your database providers permissions and either request they change them, change your hosting provider, or uninstall and stop using the component, which ever is most appropriate.
What are database triggers?
A database trigger is procedural code that is automatically executed in response to certain events on a particular table or view in a database. The trigger is mostly used for maintaining the integrity of the information on the database. For example, when a new record (representing a new worker) is added to the employees table, new records should also be created in the tables of the taxes, vacations and salaries.
Triggers are commonly used to:
- audit changes (e.g. keep a log of the users and roles involved in changes)
- enhance changes (e.g. ensure that every change to a record is time-stamped by the server's clock)
- enforce business rules (e.g. require that every invoice have at least one line item)
- execute business rules (e.g. notify a manager every time an employee's bank account number changes)
- replicate data (e.g. store a record of every change, to be shipped to another database later)
- enhance performance (e.g. update the account balance after every detail transaction, for faster queries)
Are other languages supported?
Currently only the English language is supported, however the plug-in has been written specifically to be able support other languages. We welcome any submitted language translations that users might like to contribute. These would then be made available to the whole community.
The component is now using the Transifex system and there are a few additional languages being provided. Please see the appropriate pages on the site for details of the currently available translations.

All of our Joomla extension packages upon release only contain support for the English language, but other languages, where they exist, may be separately downloaded and installed. When one upgrades from one version of a component to a different component version one should also remember that one will need to separately download and upgrade all other languages you may be using on the site. When one performs an extension upgrade only the English language will be upgraded automatically.
All our translations are managed as Transifex projects. The download page contains the link to the additional languages pack, which includes all translated languages, both complete and incomplete. This language packs may be updated more often than the components themselves depending upon the workload of the translators.

Not everything may be translated
It is more than possible that some of the translations may be incomplete. This may well be due to the translation having been performed on an earlier extension release and not yet having been updated. Remember that translators have provided their expertise freely and at no cost.
Helping with the task of completing the translation
Many of the languages in this package are missing translations. To see the status of your language, please visit the appropriate Tranifex project page.
If you think you can complete the remaining parts of a translation, or you could write a translation that has not yet been written for one of our extension, we cordially invite you to participate in the appropriate Transifex project. If you have the skills and you would like to help, we would appreciate your help with our translation work.

If you are keen to contribute your language expertise as a translator for our Joomla extensions, we would be more than happy to accept you!
Sounds good! Are there any benefits for me?
Are extensions are distributed free and as such we derive no financial income from our work. We value your contributions and always acknowledge your work and make recommendations where appropriate. If at some future time we ever start offering our extensions on a commerical basis all translators will be able to make continuous complimentary use of products as long as they continue to make their contributions.
We are seeking for dedicated translators who are willing to volunteer in the long term to translate for us whenever we launch a new product or release new product updates.
Tips for successful translations
As a contributor, you are advised to work as a team and encourage each other in the team in the completion of a language translation. The faster you work, the more Joomla users will benefit from using our extensions.

The OpenTranslators team are now part of the LEaF Translations . Ww have no personal experience of the new organisation but if previous experience is anything to go by they will be quite efficient.
Joining a Transifex team
To manage the process of who is translating what, there are teams for each language. Please create a new team for your language if one does not currently exist. Please use the five digit xx_XX language code instead of the two digit language code. Or request a membership to a specific language.
Performing the translation
Go back to the main page of the extension project page. There you should see a list of the current language files. To translate one of those just click on it. You should see some additional info and below it, a list of the available languages. If your language is not listed, just click on add Translation and choose your language. If your language is available, you can click upon it.
The names of the language files will vary and depend upon the number of language strings used in the extension and the number of plugins and/or modules included for each component.
Click on a language file to start translating.
There are two 2 methods of translating the language files:
- Translate online in real time via Transifex
- Download language files, translate from your computer and upload the files back into Transifex.
