TextPad® is a powerful, general purpose editor for plain text files. Easy to use, with all the features a power user requires. It is reasonably priced and very efficient.
An Oracle product, which obviously supports Oracle databases, but also MySQL as well. Have used over a number of years since it was first developed and is still part of our arsenal today. A free product but will require registration before one can download it.

We generally now create all of our documentation using DocBook XML, and then by using Apache FOP wil subsequently generate HTML pages and PDF documents using the XML files. One can create the DocBook XML files using a simple text editor, but XML Mind is a tool that simplifies the task considerable. This is a paid for product although there is a 'free' Personal Editor that is no longer produced or supported that constinues to work well and can be found at various sites on the web. The last version of the Personal Edition was release 5.3.0.
