Resolved: User Rights

Hello,

i'm still struggling around with the user rights. Currently i have 4 users, 3 collegues and me. I'm also the admin which should have access to the backend, the others should only have access to the frontend. Anybody should see all issues of problem list and anybody should also be able to extend the issue's history if needed.

In the moment each member can only see his assigned projects. What do i do wrong and how can i change this ?

Regards
Rolf

Re: User Rights

Oh the joys of access rights.

There are several thought that occur and the simplist is often the best. I would be tempted to make your 3 collegues 'issue administrators'. This will not in itself impact the back end in the slightest but will provide them with the view of all issues in the from end. You might then want to have 'individual' menu items for each of them configured to display the appropriate lists.

It would provide them with 'full' control over the issues in the front end. You mention about they can 'update history' but I am unsure whether this includes 'closing issues as well' which 'issue admin' would also provide.

Without access to the back end they couldn't add projects, statuses, priorities, change notifications etc.

If this is too 'relaxed' then you are probably going down the route of having an additional ACL group for your collegues and any configuration complexities that it will entail.

The ability to have 'groups' for users/administrators is an enhancement request that has yet to be looked at in detail, and is way down the road for implementation as a feature.

Re: User Rights

I'm going crazy...

Your description works fine on my local installation but not on my server installation.

On the server installation new IT users won't be registered and i don't know why. I compared the settings of both installations but cannot find a difference. As it is not a public server i set access rights for files and folders recursively to 777. I also did restart the server but also w/o success.

Any hint ?

Rolf

Re: User Rights

IT users are created in two ways. The first is when a new user is registered to Joomla. There is a system plugin (enabled by default) that copies over the user details from the Joomla table to the IT people table.

The second way is a component configuration option, which you may or may not have enabled, which will create an 'unregistered' user in the IT people tablem and is known only to IT.

I suggest that it is the first that may be providing your problems. Look at the Joomla plugins and see if it enabled.

The supplied plugin is very stable and has been in place since the very begining so I doubt that it is a coding problem. If the plugin is enabled try changing the order in which the plugin are executed, something that is installed may be causing problems.

Re: User Rights

Solved !

I deleted the IT users and synchronized them with the Joomla users, all are registered now.

Second problem was that "show user issues" was set to yes and as till now nobody else except me has written something, nothing was displayed.

Sorry for the confusion...

Rolf
