Joomla 3.5.1 redirect error

We apologise for a forum outage which suddenly occurred overnight. We seemed to have suddenly hit another Joomla 3.5.1 problem only related to the redirect plugin this time.

What is really puzzling is to why it suddenly seemed to have started overnight, although we do note that our hosting supplier did update the PHP versions last night so perhaps that is the underlying cause..

The problem is due to a breaking change in Joomla 3.5.1. Some other extensions are known to be affected, although it only seemed to have impacted our Forum. The simplest fix is to disable the Joomla redirect plugin (which is not used anyway when sh404SEF is enabled, which is the situation on our site).

Whilst this was partially successful we also had to ensure that the system was using PHP 5.6 since using PHP 7.0 also caused a different Kumena error which we had also not seem before.

Possibly the PHP 7.0.6 upgrade was also a factor.

See this php bug .

I suspect that there are a few things in action here. the possible (probable) PHP bug and this coupled with coding used in Joomla and Kunena which have combined to create the problems we saw.. The first causing the redirect problem and the second causing the Kunena get problem.
